ABSTRACT: This document is the result of the first stage of a joint research project with IIMEC and the School of Mathematics of the University of Costa Rica. The second stage consists of the development of a website that complements the text. Its objective is to offer students theoretical and practical material in the course Mathematics for Computing I. This is the first mathematics course for students of the Major in Computer Science. The course program consists on the introduction of various Mathematics topics without delving deeply into any. In subsequent courses such as Discrete Mathematics, Differential and Integral Calculus I and II, among others, these topic are studied once more with an emphasis on application. In the order of program, the text develops seven chapters: Introduction to Logic, Elements of the Set Theory, Mathematical Induction, Divisibility, Numeric Systems, Binary Relation and Functions. It was written considering the students as first year students who have begun reading and writing about Mathematics. Long and complex proofs are eliminated. Thus, the theorem proofs included are those which have a simple logical structure, and is not based on complex calculations of unfamiliar results for students.
