ABSTRACT: This study aimed to assess whether media and information literacy skills can be promoted from educational libraries, through the student radio didactic strategy. The project was developed over three years, in the following stages: 1- Review of academic literature and identification of student radio experiences. 2- Design and development of a didactic strategy for training and promoting student radio to support the formal curriculum, from school libraries and learning resource centers (CRA). 3-Evaluation of the application of the student radio didactic strategy. The study population was made up of students participating in the learning activities carried out as part of this research project. In 2018, this population consisted of 43 students from three public secondary schools, while for 2019, the population was 22 students from two schools, and in 2020 15 students from one school participated. This makes a grand total of 80 people between the ages of 12 and 18. For the second stage, a didactic strategy was designed with the following components: Academic advisory plan, call for enrollment in the student radio project of the educational center and Student Radio production workshop In the third stage, the design of evaluation rubrics and the use of qualitative techniques such as interviews and focus groups with students, teachers and professionals in library science participating in this project were proposed. Due to the health situation experienced in 2020, it was not possible to design the rubrics, collect the data or carry out the respective analysis. This will be carried out in the next research project 2021-2023. During the research period, the following main achievements were obtained: a) information was collected in 14 public schools, in order to obtain data about the characteristics of the libraries or learning resource centers and the possible existence of student radios in these centers; b) six student radio production workshops were held in three modalities, in three public schools (Colegio de San Luis Gonzaga de Cartago, Colegio Redemptorista San Alfonso de Alajuela and Colegio de Bagaces, Guanacaste), with a total participation of 80 high school students ; c) the design and airing of the respective student radios were promoted in the participating schools by means of streaming on the Internet or in closed circuit; d) The collaboration of two courses of the Librarianship and Information Sciences (BI-4003 Librarianship and Social Communication and BI-5013 Scientific Reports Writing Workshop) and a course of the career of Collective Communication Sciences (C-0011 Basic Audio Production); e) a literature review was carried out with 38 sources of information related to media and informational competences; f) criteria were formulated to design indicators for evaluating AMI competencies; g) the design and elaboration of graphic promotional messages and a website for the student radio station RADIO-E were advised; h) RADIO-E's participation in the broadcast of World Student Radio Day was advised, as a result of which the station received the Bret Michaels ’Spirit Of College Radio Award 2020“ for outstanding efforts ”.
