ABSTRACT: Statistical analysis (presented in 31 boxes and their respective graphs) on the enrollment trends of the Preschool, Primary and Secondary education of the Central American countries in the period between 1990-1996 (although 1997 data are also included). The main objective was to establish how the educational indicators manifest themselves: initial enrollment, final enrollment, institutions (public and private), teachers, classrooms, approved, failed, dropouts, repeaters and their respective variables in each of the countries of the region, in order to know what is the educational situation in each of them to propose strategies that solve the common problems of the Central American region. The other objective of the study was to obtain 13 data to analyze the historical trend of the indicators. This research offers information (whose analysis is presented in general) important and useful for the Education and Gender program, which is carried out in the I.I.M.E.C. In the conclusions, the researcher states that the analysis of the data reflects that the trends in each country differ from year to year; in addition, that a similar behavior is not observed neither between countries nor within each one of them. It suggests, however, that if the data is disaggregated, more particular characteristics could be envisioned.
