Concepción de la Investigación en la Universidad de Costa Rica.

Resumen
La investigación tuvo como objetivo general “analizar la concepción de investigación que poseen los directivos e investigadores de la Universidad de Costa Rica, con el fin de determinar los elementos principales que integran la concepción de investigación y la función social de ésta”. Para lograrlo se analizaron los siguientes aspectos:
• Elementos principales que integran la concepción de investigación de los participantes en el estudio.
• Se confrontó la mirada actual que se tiene hacia la investigación con los retos de la educación superior
para el siglo XXI en América Latina.
• Se analiza el papel del directivo universitario como líder para la transformación del concepto que se
detecte en los investigadores, de tal forma que se puedan desarrollar acciones para el cambio, de ser
necesario.
Mediante una metodología participativa, se obtuvo la opinión de diez investigadores, los que se seleccionaron intencionalmente según la relevancia del trabajo que desarrollaron en materia de investigación en los últimos diez años, y del reconocido prestigio de ellas.
Se logra construir la concepción predominante en la visión académica de estos investigadores como lo muestran las siguientes conclusiones:
• “La Universidad de Costa Rica posee una definición teórica, coherente y clara de la investigación en su
Estatuto y políticas en este campo, la cual es compartida por los directivos e investigadores.
• Los principales elementos que integran esta concepción tienen que ver con el compromiso solidario con
la sociedad y el desarrollo del país, a través del fortalecimiento de la investigación básica y aplicada y
del diseño de nuevas tecnologías.
• En la práctica, la Universidad deberá continuar buscando la configuración de un concepto de investigación
por medio del cual logre recrear la realidad, replantearla, con el fin de verla como un sistema
articulado.
• La actual concepción de investigación en la Universidad de Costa Rica plantea que esta debe ser el
medio para buscar el perfeccionamiento de la función docente.
• La relación entre las tres funciones sustantivas de la Universidad, docencia, investigación y acción social,
no han alcanzado aún la integración, para que estas sean en un solo movimiento, la herramientas
con la cual se construyan nuevos espacios y condiciones en la sociedad”.
En este campo, se señala la necesidad de que la Universidad haga de la investigación una acción cotidiana
para poder atender los retos del Siglo XXI.
Por otra parte, se detectan debilidades en materia de gestión de la investigación que conducen a plantear la
necesidad de realizar un proyecto universitario que incluya la articulación efectiva de las tres funciones sustantivas.
Esto se fundamenta en la opinión predominante de los investigadores informantes quienes expresaron
que aún no se logra esta relación en forma efectiva.
ABSTRACT: This research had as a general objective "to analyze the research conception that the directors and researchers of the University of Costa Rica possess, in order to determine the main elements that integrate the research conception and its social function". To achieve this, the following aspects were analyzed: • Main elements that integrate the research conception of the participants in the study. • The current conception towards research was confronted with the challenges of higher education for the 21st century in Latin America. • The role of the university manager as a leader for the transformation of the concept detected in researchers is analyzed, so that actions for change can be developed, if necessary. Through a participatory methodology, the opinion of ten researchers was obtained, who were intentionally selected according to the relevance of the work they carried out in the field of research in the last ten years, and their recognized prestige. The predominant conception in the academic vision of these researchers is constructed as shown by the following conclusions: • “The University of Costa Rica has a theoretical, coherent and clear definition of research in its Statute and policies in this field, which is shared by managers and researchers. • The main elements that integrate this conception have to do with the solidarity commitment with society and the development of the country, through the strengthening of basic and applied research and the design of new technologies. • In practice, the University should continue to seek the configuration of a research concept through which it manages to recreate reality, rethink it, in order to see it as an articulated system. • The current conception of research at the University of Costa Rica states that this should be the means to seek the improvement of the teaching function. • The relationship among the three substantive functions of the University, teaching, research and social action, have not yet achieved integration, so that these are in a single movement, the tools with which new spaces and conditions are built in society ” . In this field, the need for the University to make research a daily action in order to meet the challenges of the 21st century is pointed out. On the other hand, weaknesses in research management are detected that lead to the need to carry out a university project that includes the effective articulation of the three substantive functions. This is based on the predominant opinion of the informant researchers who expressed that this relationship is not yet effectively achieved.
