ABSTRACT: Playful Words is a didactic series for teaching and learning vocabulary. Its purpose is for lexical units to be incorporated into the communicative competence of the individual given the value of vocabulary as a structuring element of thought and its need for social intention. The selection of words presented corresponds to a target lexicon that emerged from research carried out throughout the country. Based on this study, the repertoire of terminology is systemized and arranged in each year of the first and second cycle of General Basic Education. Each unit is designed so that learning is encouraged through playing, reading, induction and text production. For this reason, new vocabulary emerges spontaneously from playful activities. In general terms, this didactic material was characterized as follows: • It meets the development of communicative competence as an ability to use the language system effectively and appropriately. • It is based on a notion of language as varied. • To incorporate play and the ability to think. The material is based on meaningful learning that integrates play, induction and creativity. • The vocabulary is presented contextualized or related to facilitate its comprehension and recall. Each word appears in at least six different forms or contexts. • Sometimes the meaning of words is presented overtly (by definition), but mostly its elicit comprehension is done through contextual contexts (phrases, texts), extralinguistic (references, drawings), linguistic (semantic relationships, paraphrases, etc.). • The use of dictionary is promoted. • They resemble entertainment material. • The activities include the production of texts in a dynamic and creative manner while taking into account the concept of reading and writing for creating meaning. • It focuses on the use of vocabulary and not the rules. • Children are intended to produce oral and written texts with a rich, accurate and adequate lexicon based on their level. • The material aids teachers and families by increasing the potential of creative work which is fundamental for change. In summary, this material intends to fulfill a great and urgent educational need in the field of our mother tongue.
