ABSTRACT: The general objective of the research was to analyze the vocational behavior of the students of the Orientation career at the University of Costa Rica. A mixed research approach is used, combining quantitative and qualitative techniques. It seeks to answer the research question: What vocational behaviors of the students of the Counceling career can contribute to an adequate labor insertion? The theoretical foundation, the elaboration and validation of the information collection instruments were carried out. From the qualitative perspective, it was possible to carry out the 4 focus group sessions with the students of level I and IV, the quantitative information instrument was applied at all levels of the career. In addition, a consultation was carried out with graduates of the Orientation career about the aspects that contributed to their insertion. Likewise, the information collected was processed using the Atlas ti program for qualitative information and Excel and SPSS tools for quantitative data, achieving the organization of the results for the respective analysis. The participating population corresponded to students who, in 2017, were enrolled and active, in the Baccalaureate and Bachelor's degree curriculum of the Education Sciences career with an emphasis on Counceling at the UCR. Participation was based on availability, that is, those who voluntarily agreed to be part of the study. In total, the sample consisted of 132 students in the quantitative consultation, of which 43 are men and 89 women, distributed at all levels. Some of the conclusions of the study are the following: In choosing a career, the participating students took into account their self-knowledge of their interests and abilities, since at the beginning they were not clear about their vocational decision, but they were able to identify their interest in the social area. The decision to study Orientation for some students was because they considered that it was adjusted to their personal characteristics, since since high school they thought about a career that would allow them to help other people and it was easier for them to identify the careers they did not like or did not have skill. It is reiterated the need for the Orientation processes that allow the student population to deepen their knowledge of themselves, their interests, abilities and educational opportunities. The information of the career to which you want to enter or in which you enter, is essential in decision-making, which was provided in formal spaces such as in talks or through printed material, but information is also accessed as a result of the interaction with their peers or by searching for personal initiative. The student body at the time of entering the career did not have enough information, which made it necessary to investigate and consult with close people or with specialized instances of the university.
