ABSTRACT: The research says that there is a significant relationship between the level obtained in the tests of formal thought and membership in a socioeconomic stratum: a mayor rising on the social scale, mayor development of formal thinking. In addition, in the specific level tests, young people from 12 to 13 years old, belonging to the highest classes, achieve the highest percentage of success, and then suffer a decline, which raises the question of which is the reason of this stagnation is due. It is clear that cultural and socioeconomic environments condition different constellations of stimuli for the development of intelligence, but it is not proven that such conditions favor the early emergence of formal thought. There are other factors with as much or more weight on the school performance, the social level and the standard of living of the students, among them, the occupational and educational level of the father of the family.
