ABSTRACT: The Research Institute for the Improvement of Costa Rican Education has selected the most specific problems of Costa Rican education through some questions raised in the "Evaluative Diagnostics of the Teaching of General Sciences, Spanish and English". This report responds to the following problem: What advice do teachers receive from Basic General Education and Diversified Education ?, thus constituting the second report prepared in this regard, and which purpose is to use the results necessary to initiate immediate actions in order to improve the quality of teaching. In this research, counseling is conceptualized as technical assistance in the pedagogical and specific field that offers members, groups or entities to teachers in the country, to facilitate learning. Given the queries about the advice received by the teacher, specific aspects related to the sources, aspects and means by which the advice is offered were investigated. Some conclusions obtained in the research are: In general, there is little advice received by teachers of General Sciences, Spanish and English, from national, regional or institutional levels; is at this last level (department coordinator and Evaluation Committee) that more advice is offered. The members of the Evaluation Committees of day schools are the ones that offer the most advice to teachers. Teachers who work in day schools and technicians who receive a little more advice than night schools.
