ABSTRACT: This guide focuses on the academic-professional profile, guiding axis of the study plan of a career. According to the authors, the academic-professional profile is the academic, personal and labor characterization of the professional that the UCR intends to train, in relation to the needs and expectations of the individual and of society. The guide reviews some relevant concepts for the elaboration of a profile of this type (the curriculum, the curricular planning, the curricular diagnosis, the design of the study plan - the professional academic profile, the structure of the courses, the programmatic proposals of the courses-, the administration of the study plan and the curricular evaluation). The proposed methodological procedure for preparing academic-professional profiles is participatory, which implies the construction of collective knowledge according to the interests and specific needs of the social actors involved in the process. The methodological process for preparing profiles includes three phases: the preparation of a base profile document (DBP), the discussion of the DBP with the participants in the process and the transformation of their contributions, and the preparation of the academic-professional profile (PAP) of the career. The components of the profile are grouped into three areas: the academic area (knowledge, abilities and skills), the professional area (values and attitudes) and the work area (functions and tasks). The profile cannot be conceived as a simple list of desirable aspects to train a professional, but as a consistent internal and external curricular instrument.
